Dallas Acupuncturist Recommends Ear Massage to Reduce Stress

Dallas Acupuncturist Nancy Corsaro of East-West Acupuncture recommends ear massage to help reduce stress.

Ear massage can calm the mind and promote well being.  Studies have demonstrated that ear stimulation increases the levels of endorphins in both the blood and cerebrospinal fluid.

Endorphins are hormones that reduce pain and promote a feeling of general well-being.   Exercise produces endorphins, as does acupuncture and acupressure.

Here is an ear massage (‘acupressure) that you can do for yourself or for your loved ones:

Rub in small circular motions with your thumbs inside the widest upper part inside the ear.  (“Hold” the ear with your index and middle fingers placed behind the upper part of the ear while you massage the inside).

Next, use your index finger to massage inside the smaller areas of the ear and along the front of your ear where it attaches to the head.

Last, massage the earlobes by gently pulling them down, holding between your thumb and index finger; then massage in circular motions with your thumb and forefinger.

Ear (auricular) acupuncture is used to treat many conditions, but is best known for its ability to calm anxiety, reduce stress, manage pain and assist in the detoxification of addictive substances.
