Dallas Acupuncturist Nancy Corsaro reports on recent research showing that dieters who slept for 8.5 hours lost 55% more body fat than dieters who slept 5.5 hours. The dieters who slept less reported feeling hungrier throughout the study even though they ate the same diet and performed similar activities as the dieters who slept more.
The study authors concluded that “lack of sufficient sleep may compromise the efficacy of typical dietary interventions for weight loss and related metabolic risk reduction”*.
For most adults, 7-8 hours of sleep is the best. It’s also advisable to get to bed as early as possible as our systems do the majority of their ‘recharging’ between 10 pm and 1 am. Insufficient or poor sleep both are associated with health risks such as a weakened immune system; impaired memory; high blood pressure and many other conditions.
So – sleep well and sleep long for good health and weight management!
